Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use these coloring pages to explain the difference between the wise and foolish virgins?
Yes. Begin with Pages 3, 7, and 8, where children can clearly see the preparation of filling oil containers, then finish with Pages 14 and 15 to discuss why being spiritually prepared mattered in Jesus’ parable.
This story uses the word “virgins,” which feels like an awkward word to explain to young kids. How do I handle that?
You can skip the word entirely for younger kids and just call them “ten young women” or “ten bridesmaids,” which is accurate to the original wedding custom and much easier to talk about. The word itself isn’t the point of the lesson, being ready is, so there’s no need to get stuck explaining it before you can even start.
My child asks why the five who ran out of oil couldn’t just borrow some from the others. Isn’t that unkind?
That’s a great question to sit with rather than rush past. Ask your child what they think would have happened if all ten lamps had run low at the same time, everyone would have missed the door. It’s less about one group being stingy and more about some things you genuinely can’t hand off to someone else at the last minute, like being ready yourself.
