15 Free Gideon Coloring Pages (Gideon and the 300)
It’s a familiar feeling, being asked to do something that seems far bigger than what you believe about yourself. This story starts with exactly that, a man hiding to avoid notice, being called a mighty warrior anyway.
He wrings out a fleece. He asks for proof. He starts with 32,000 men and ends up with 300. It’s one of the most honest stories in Scripture about doubt turning into obedience, which is exactly why kids relate to it so easily, most of them have asked “are you sure?” at least once today.
These 15 free Gideon coloring pages walk through the whole account, from the angel’s first appearance to the torches on the hillside, giving your child space to sit with a hero who started out scared and became brave anyway.
A Note from Louisa (Founder of MyKidColors)
When I was little, I was told, directly and indirectly, that something as ordinary as being left-handed made me a problem to be corrected. I started to believe I wasn’t capable of doing things the way other kids could.

It wasn’t until my mother stepped in and simply said to leave me alone that I actually started to believe I could do well, and then I did, better than I expected. I think about that whenever I read the part where God calls Gideon “mighty warrior” while he’s hiding in a winepress, doing everything he can to stay small and unnoticed.
Sometimes someone else has to see it in you before you can see it in yourself.
Conversation Corner: 3 Questions to Ask While Coloring
Turn this activity into a bonding moment. While your child colors, try asking these questions:
- For “Wringing the Fleece” (Page 6): “Gideon asked God for proof before he trusted Him. Is it okay to ask questions when you’re not sure about something? Why or why not?”
- For “A Torchbearer in a Wheelchair” (Page 9): “Gideon’s army wasn’t picked because they were the strongest, they were picked because they were ready. What do you think makes someone ready to help, even if they don’t look like a ‘typical’ hero?”
- For “Gideon Triumphant” (Page 15): “Gideon started out hiding and afraid, and ended up leading an army. What’s something that scares you now that you hope you’ll feel brave about someday?”

- Children’s Ministry Leaders & Youth Group Volunteers: The story’s “unlikely army” theme makes for an easy group discussion starter about how everyone has something to contribute, torch or no torch.
- Special Needs & Inclusion-Focused Educators: With a torchbearer shown in a wheelchair, this set offers a natural, unforced way to talk about courage and belonging with every child in the room.
Why Human-Drawn Coloring Pages Matter to Us
Every parent knows a kid who needs to hear something twice before they believe it. Gideon asked for the same proof twice, and God simply gave it to him again, no scolding, no impatience. I wanted an illustrator who would let that fleece scene feel like real reassurance, not a test Gideon was failing.
At My Kid Colors, every page is made by a real human illustrator who thinks about dignity, cultural awareness, and emotional truth before a single line gets drawn, so a boy in a wheelchair standing among the chosen 300 reads as belonging, not an afterthought.
Frequently Asked Questions
How can I turn Gideon’s fleece test into a hands-on craft?
Use Page 6 or Page 13 as a coloring companion, then set out a small piece of felt or cotton wool and a shallow bowl so kids can “test” wringing water from it, just like Gideon did โ a simple, tactile way to talk about asking for reassurance.
Gideon asked God for proof, twice, with the fleece test, before he trusted the plan. Is it okay to tell kids that doubting and asking for reassurance is fine?
I think it’s actually one of the most useful parts of this story to sit with. Gideon wasn’t punished for asking twice, God simply answered him again. Pages 2, 6, and 13 all focus on the fleece specifically, so you have plenty of room to talk about how asking questions and needing reassurance isn’t the same as a lack of faith.
Why did God reduce Gideon’s army from 32,000 down to just 300? That seems like it makes the odds worse, not better.
That’s actually the point of the story worth naming directly. Ask your child what they think the army might have believed about the victory if they’d won with 32,000 soldiers versus just 300. The smaller number made it obvious the win wasn’t about how many people showed up.
