15 Free Tower of Babel Coloring Pages That Teach Kids What Happens When We Build Without God
There are two ways to build something big: with God, or without Him.
The Tower of Babel is what happens when a whole city chooses the second option. And it’s one of the fastest, clearest object lessons in the Old Testament for kids about pride, unity, and what God does when people try to make a name for themselves instead of His.
This set of 15 Tower of Babel coloring pages walks through the entire story, from the first brick laid to the moment families scattered across the earth speaking different languages.
Giving kids a hands-on way to sit with a story that’s really about why we build, not just what we build.
This story is part of something biggerโฆ

A Note from Louisa (Founder of MyKidColors)
At the University of Wyoming, I met people from all over the world, more countries and accents in one place than I’d ever experienced growing up. I used to mentally pull up the map in my head every time someone told me where they were from, like a private pop quiz.
This story ends with exactly that kind of scattering, one people becoming many, one language becoming many. I don’t know that I’ve ever read it as purely a punishment. Some of the most interesting parts of my own life came out of exactly that kind of difference.
Conversation Corner: 3 Questions to Ask While Coloring
Turn this activity into a bonding moment. While your child colors, try asking these questions:
- For “God Watches From Above” (Page 6): “Why do you think God cared so much about what the people were building? Do you think He was surprised, or did He already know what would happen?”
- For “Nobody Understands Anybody” (Page 7): “Have you ever tried to explain something and nobody understood you? What do you think it felt like to be one of the builders at that exact moment?”
- For “Walking Away” (Page 9): “This family is leaving everything they built behind. Do you think that felt sad, scary, or maybe even a little hopeful? Why?”
The Collection: 15 Free Tower of Babel Coloring Pages
We’ve organized these into three sets to help you teach the full arc of Genesis 11 โ from the first brick to the last family walking away.
For Little Hands: Gathering to Build (Pages 1โ5)
Best for toddlers and preschoolers. These pages focus on simple shapes, teamwork, and the everyday work of building something together.
- Page 1 introduces the story with a family studying a map, a gentle way to open the conversation about “what are we building, and why?”
- Pages 2 & 3 show builders stacking stone and the tower’s first tiers taking shape, great for kids who love spotting ladders and scaffolding.
- Pages 4 & 5 bring the tower higher into the sky, with young helpers pushing wheelbarrows and gathering blocks โ a fun, active scene for kids who like to see themselves “helping” too.
Confusion and Change (Pages 6โ10)
Perfect for elementary kids. These pages visualize the turning point of the story โ God’s response, and what happened next.
- Page 6 shows heavenly light breaking through the clouds as three people look up in awe, a striking page for talking about God noticing everything.
- Pages 7 & 8 capture the moment of confusion, with question-mark speech bubbles and idle wooden beams as the work grinds to a halt.
- Pages 9 & 10 follow a family walking away with their belongings, and four people from different cultures standing together against a backdrop of pyramids and temples โ a natural bridge into a conversation about the many nations and languages God created that day.
The Full Story & Scattering (Pages 11โ15)
Designed for older kids or quiet reflection. These scenes include detailed storytelling elements and the story’s final chapter.
- Page 11 shows the tower abandoned and crumbling, with scattered debris โ a quiet, thoughtful page for older kids to sit with.
- Pages 12 & 13 show pathways and a world map with arrows tracing where each group went, ideal for kids who like maps and geography.
- Pages 14 & 15 close the set with workers still carrying bricks under a sunlit sky, and a four-panel comic that retells the whole story from bricks to scattering โ perfect as a final review page.
Perfect for Sunday School & Homeschool
Teachers and parents love using these as Bible story worksheets and Genesis coloring activities. Here are a few ways to extend the lesson:
- Homeschool families teaching Genesis 11 will appreciate having a ready-made way to walk through the whole story, from the first brick laid to the moment the people scattered across the earth. These coloring pages open up conversations about pride, obedience, and why God cares about what we build and why we build it.
- Sunday school instructors and children’s ministry leaders often need a visual anchor that can carry an entire lesson without extra prep. These printables pair well with Genesis coloring activities, Old Testament Bible lessons, classroom discussions, and hands-on learning that keeps kids engaged through a story with a lot of moving parts.
- Children’s church and VBS leaders can pull individual pages, like the tower rising into the clouds or the moment of confused speech bubbles, to anchor a shorter lesson without needing to work through the full set. The illustrations naturally invite questions about unity, language, and God’s bigger plan for the nations.
- Extended family and caregivers looking for a quiet, screen-free activity during a visit will appreciate having inclusive, hand-drawn printables on hand. Featuring builders and families of different cultures standing together, these illustrations help every child see themselves in the story of the many nations God created that day.
Human-Drawn from the Very First Line
A story about one group scattering into many different peoples and languages could easily read as loss, or it could read as the beginning of real human diversity. I wanted an illustrator who left room for both, especially in that final scattering scene.
At My Kid Colors, every page is made by a real human illustrator who thinks about dignity, cultural awareness, and emotional truth before a single line gets drawn, so the different peoples on page 10 feel like a real beginning, not just a punishment.
Frequently Asked Questions
How can I use the four-panel comic page (Page 15) to retell the whole story in one sitting?
Save it for last. After kids have colored their way through Pages 1โ14, hand them Page 15 and ask them to walk you through each panel in their own words before coloring it in โ it works as a natural comprehension check and a satisfying way to close out the set.
Can I use these pages to teach kids about different world cultures and languages?
Yes โ Page 10 and Page 13 were designed with that in mind. Page 10 shows people from different cultures standing together, and Page 13 maps out where groups scattered. Pair either one with a simple “count the languages” activity, or have kids look up a greeting in a language other than their own.
My child asks why God didn’t want the people to build something impressive. How do I answer that?
I’d point out that the story’s own words focus on the reason behind the building, “so that we may make a name for ourselves,” rather than the building itself being the problem. Building something big isn’t the issue in this story, building it to avoid needing anyone else is. That’s a more specific, useful thing for a child to sit with than “big things are bad.”
