A Note from Louisa (Founder of MyKidColors)

My father brought books into our home to make sure his daughters had access to a good education, even when the reasoning behind some of his choices wasn’t always explained to us as kids. I didn’t always understand his methods at the time.

Looking back, I understand what he was building toward. That’s the part of this story I hold onto, not the fear, but Isaac walking up that mountain beside his father, helping carry the wood, trusting him without needing to understand everything first.

The Real People Behind Our Coloring Pages

This is one of the hardest stories in the Bible to illustrate for children, and several existing versions handle it in ways that genuinely startled me, a boy tied to an altar, a knife raised over him.

I wanted a human illustrator who would find a way through this story without ever putting a child in that position on the page, and who could make the relief at the end feel as real as the tension leading up to it.

As a mom-led brand, we believe some stories deserve extra care, not avoidance. These pages were made to hold this one gently. Our goal is to create Bible resources where children feel included while discovering stories about faith, courage, and Godโ€™s love.

Frequently Asked Questions

Several other versions of this story I’ve seen show Isaac tied to an altar with a knife raised over him. This set doesn’t show that at all. Was that a deliberate choice?

Yes, very deliberately. Several existing coloring pages for this story do show that moment directly, and at least one source we found even flags its own version as possibly too graphic for young children. We chose to skip that moment entirely. The pages move from building the altar together straight to the ram caught in the thicket and the relief afterward, so the fear and the knife are never actually shown. The story’s outcome, that God provided another way and Isaac was safe, comes through clearly without needing to depict the moment leading up to it.

What ages are these Abraham and Isaac Bible Coloring Pages best for?

This collection works well for preschoolers, kindergarten students, and elementary-aged children. Younger children can enjoy the simpler designs, while older children can use the pages for storytelling and reflection.

How do I explain why God would ask Abraham to do something like this at all?

I’d be honest that this is one of the harder questions in the Bible, and that reasonable people have wrestled with it for a very long time. What I’d focus on with a child is the ending Abraham himself named the place after, “The Lord Will Provide,” Genesis 22:14. The story is remembered for what God provided, not for what almost happened, and that’s a fair, age-appropriate place to land the conversation.
